Anti-Aging Solution: Botox Injections

At Richens Eye Center, we provide a wide selection of vision services for our patients. In addition, we are also pleased to offer cosmetic injectables such as Botox. Botox is well-known as an injectable treatment for anti-aging purposes. Patients who have fine lines, wrinkles and folds on the facial area may consider using Botox to smooth them away and achieve a more youthful appearance.

How does Botox work?

Dr. Sharon Richens of Richens Eye Center describes Botox as a medication that is used directly into the muscles of the face to smooth dynamic wrinkles and folds. The medication uses botulinum toxin type A, which is safe and effective at reducing muscle contractions. Botox is perfect for wrinkles that develop due to tightening muscles, including:

• Crow’s feet

• Forehead folds

• Glabellar lines (wrinkles between the eyebrows)

What can I expect with Botox injections?

First and foremost, patients are encouraged to schedule a consultation and initial evaluation with our professionals to determine if Botox could help them achieve the youthful appearance they desire. Once it has been decided that Botox would be appropriate, injections are administered. A topical anesthetic is used on the area being treated to ensure patient comfort. The injections are made into the facial muscles. While results are not immediate, they do appear within a few days as the skin smooths from reduced muscle tension.

How long will Botox results last?

Botox is known to last anywhere from four to seven months, depending on how much is used and the area of treatment. When Botox needs to be reinjected, patients will notice the development of wrinkles and folds in the treated areas. This is a sign that treatment may need to be done soon to maintain the results achieved prior. Most patients visit us every six months to keep their youthful appearance and slow the overall signs of aging.
